Technical Maintenance Person (Mech/Elec)

6 Month probationary rate $32.87 - Regular rate $ $34.60

 

Purpose/Customer Impact: To provide the District with testing, repairs and maintenance of all mechanical/electrical equipment maintained by the District in support of the operations department.

Reporting Relationships:   

     Reports to:  Chief Wastewater Operator. May receive task direction from the Technical Maintenance Foreperson, or as part of a project team.                                                                           

     Direct Reports:  None                                                                                                              

     Interrelationships:  Daily coordination of equipment maintenance and repair with Plant/Systems Operators and contact with suppliers, vendors, and technical field representatives.  May oversee contractor      work on various occasions.

Independent Action:  Limited direct supervision, schedule own workday and determine procedures for preventative maintenance and PM schedule.  Decide direction of work, methods used and selection of materials due to code requirements and experience.   

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Perform maintenance, repair and overhaul of pumps, generators, aerators, screens, boilers, chlorinators, valves and similar mechanical/electrical equipment, appurtenances and other equipment as identified.
  • Create and implement a preventive maintenance work schedule on all equipment to obtain reliability, longevity and reduce the risk of equipment failure, possibly affecting water quality.
  • Maintain records and maintenance logs to document equipment and operation performance, log part replacement and/or modification, and ensure consistent maintenance.  Enter data and utilize reports in Asset Management System.  Periodically inspect and test equipment for malfunction and needed repairs; resolve/repair as appropriate.
  • Install, set up and test new equipment; modify and maintain installed equipment.
  • Maintain adequate spare parts and tools inventory; initiate and submit purchase requests, and assist in purchase of equipment as needed.
  • Recommend maintenance and operating procedure changes. Share decisions on priorities and spare parts with Operators.
  • Train operators and improve their understanding of the proper use of the equipment, as needed.
  • May direct other District personnel assigned to assist in their areas of responsibility as necessary.
  • Is proactively aware of and abides by all applicable Safety regulations, policies and practices.
  • Assist Technical Maintenance Foreperson as needed.
  • Answer calls for troubleshooting of equipment and facilities, including weekend and emergency response.  Perform standby duty.
  • Perform operational tasks as required, including weekends and emergency response.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Essential Job Functions: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, crawling, reaching, bending, lifting (50 lbs), twisting, kneeling, squatting, gripping, manual dexterity, wear approved respirator, visual accuracy, ability to drive, clear verbal and written communication, computer usage.

  • Graduation from an accredited high school, or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a vocational training school in mechanical/electrical maintenance plus two years of job experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and additional relevant training.
  • Possess a State of Maine Journeyman’s Electrical License.
  • State of Maine certification as a grade II wastewater operator(plant), or NEWEA Class II Collections Systems Operators license (systems).
  • Valid class C driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with various power sources and controls, as well as the ability to troubleshoot electrical/mechanical problems encountered on the job and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Demonstrates competency in key performance measures including but not limited to: productivity, quality of work, safe work practices, communication, teamwork/working relations, customer service, initiative and continuous learning.
  • Meets Essential Job Function requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, and must be able to complete necessary tasks while wearing an approved respirator.
  • Can competently utilize appropriate computer programs to plan, record, and analyze work.
  • Pursues training as required.
