NEWEA Recognizes local water professionals

Portland Water District’s Steve Sloan of Cumberland was recently presented with the William D. Hatfield Award at the 2015 NEWEA Annual Conference.  This award is given to operators of wastewater treatment plants who are recognized for their outstanding performance and professionalism.  Sloan oversees operations at the East End Wastewater Treatment Facility as the plant’s manager. 

Portland Water District’s James Galasyn of Saco was inducted into the NEWEA Crystal Crucible Society at the 2015 NEWEA Annual Conference.  He was nominated based on his significant contributions to the wastewater laboratory profession.  Galasyn is the Portland Water District’s lead environmental scientist.

The New England Water Environment Association is a not-for-profit organization of over 2100 water and wastewater professionals located throughout New England.  For 86 years the  association has been dedicated to the advancement of knowledge of design, construction, operation, and management of sewage works and the encouragement of a friendly exchange of information and experience.
