Portland Student Awarded $1,500 Scholarship

Yesterday the Portland Water District Board of Trustees awarded the 2014 Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship to Corey Bryant of Portland. Bryant is pursuing a degree in environmental science at the University of Southern Maine. He maintains a 3.7 GPA while working part-time and volunteering at the Friends of Casco Bay and the Preble Street Soup Kitchen. He is the first in his family to attend college.

Also this year the Board of Trustees celebrated over a decade of scholarship recipients. The scholarship was established to commemorate longtime trustee Joe DiPietro’s dedication to advancing youth education, and the Portland Water District Board of Trustees is proud to continue to support local students entering water, wastewater, science, and environmental fields. In honor of Joe, the Board’s commitment to education, and the scholarship recipients, Joe’s family attended the Board meeting and placed a commemorative plaque on the wall.
