Portland Water District earns national recognition for sustainability.

The Portland Water District (PWD) was recently honored with the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies’ (AMWA) Sustainable Water Utility Management Award.

AMWA’s Sustainable Water Utility Management Award recognizes member utilities that have made a commitment to sustainable management. This award views sustainability through a triple bottom line lens; winners must achieve a balance of innovative and successful efforts in areas of economic, social, and environmental endeavors, such as responsible management of resources, protection of public health, meeting responsibilities to the community, and providing cost-effective services to ratepayers.

PWD has now won all the major AMWA awards for performance, which include the Sustainability Award, Gold Award for Exceptional Utility Performance, and the Platinum Award for Utility Excellence. Together, the awards recognize unrelenting efforts to provide exceptional utility performance.

In the application, the Portland Water District demonstrates its commitment to sustainability with a long-standing policy of balancing the cost of services with the need for investment and adequate operating funds, rate stability, energy efficiencies, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility.
