Get Curious. Get Connected to Your Water.

Each year, the drinking water community comes together to recognize National Drinking Water Week, a national celebration of the vital role clean, safe drinking water plays in our daily lives.

At Portland Water District, we’re proud to bring that celebration to our community by hosting a series of free events that highlight the journey of your water—from source to tap. If scheduled events do not work for you, we encourage you to explore on your own with a peaceful walk on one of our many watershed trails.

Sebago Lake Water Treatment Facility Tour

Wednesday May 6th & 13th, 2026 | 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.

1 White Rock Road, Standish

Tour the largest water treatment facility in the state, the Sebago Lake Water Treatment Facility, where water is produced for 1/6 of Maine’s population. At Portland Water District, we’re not just treating water—we’re perfecting it. Every day, using a blend of ozone, ultraviolet light, and chloramine disinfection, we treat, test, and deliver 22 million gallons of clean, fresh drinking water to consumers.

During the tour, you’ll also get a behind-the-scenes look at our laboratory, where scientists explain how they test and ensure the quality of your water. This is an excellent opportunity to discover how innovative processes keep your water crystal clear and healthy.
