Portland Water District’s Crystal Cooper and Evan Johnson recently completed an 8-month long Wastewater Operator School offered through JETCC in conjunction with Maine Department of Environmental Protection and Maine Water Environment Association. Both work at the East End Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The course which began in January was originally intended to unfold over a period of 6-months. It was planned to occur via twelve in-person bi-weekly classes held at Portland Water District facilities. However, COVID-19 caused in-person classes to be cancelled in March. After completing five traditional classes, students shifted to computer-based training.
