EPA Officials Tour PWD Treatment Facility, Discuss Water Issues and Challenges

Recently, Portland Water District welcomed EPA Region 1 Administrator Mark Sanborn, Deputy Regional Administrator Karen McGuire, EPA staff, and Maine DEP Commissioner Melanie Loyzim to discuss key water issues and challenges impacting our region.

The visit included a tour of our East End Wastewater Treatment Facility and focused on PFAS management, biosolids solutions, drinking water quality, and nitrogen removal strategies. We also discussed challenges with land conservation funding and the importance of leveraging federal programs.

Special thanks to our team for their leadership in making the visit a success. We look forward to continued collaboration with our federal and state partners to protect Maine’s water resources.
