July is Lakes Appreciation Month—a time to reflect on the essential role lakes play in our lives. From providing clean drinking water to offering recreation, flood control, and natural beauty, lakes like Sebago Lake support our communities in countless ways. Yet, growing populations, development, and invasive species threaten these precious resources. Lakes Appreciation Month reminds us not to take lakes for granted, and we encourage customers to take extra time to appreciate how fortunate we are to rely on such an incredible water source. To celebrate, PWD is dedicating this issue of E-News to all things Sebago Lake. Learn all about Sebago Lake here.

Sebago Lake Temperatures

Know Before You Go

The Sebago Lake Monitoring Buoy, located in the lake’s Lower Bay, records and wirelessly transmits real-time data on water temperature and dissolved oxygen. The data are used by Portland Water District scientists and researchers, professors, and environmental science students to monitor lake health, advance research, and support sustainable water resource management. It is also available to the public.

By checking current conditions before you head out, you can make informed decisions to help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit to Sebago Lake. Explore the data and view today’s lake temperature below. pwd.org/sebago-lake-monitoring-buoy
