 Sebago Lakescaping Site Visit

Let the Portland Water District help you fix a yard succumbing to erosion, improve the beauty of your yard, and protect water quality. Sebago Lakescaping Site Visits are free to anyone with property within 200 feet of Sebago Lake. Here's how it works.

  1. Contact us to schedule a visit.
  2. A trained water resources specialist will visit your property and conduct a comprehensive evaluation.
  3. You will receive a custom report that offers specific suggestions for making your property more 'lake friendly' and design options.
  4. If you do decide to implement improvements, the water resources specialist can be available for technical assistance.

If you would like more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact us.

Sebago Lakescaping Grants

Once you complete a Sebago Lakescaping Site Visit, you may be eligible for a Sebago Lakescaper Grant. Recommendations provided in your consultation report will be rated for degree of water quality concern. The level of grant funding available for implementing a particular recommendation will depend on this rating.

Association/municipal projects are eligible to receive a maximum of a $2,000 grant.

Individual/residential projects are eligible to receive a maximum of a $1,000 grant.

Septic Permits

Installation or replacement of a subsurface wastewater disposal system (septic system) on a property located within 200 feet of the high water mark of Sebago Lake requires written approval of the Portland Water District (PWD). The Portland Water District's jurisdiction also extends up some of the tributaries to the lake (including, for example, the area around Sebago Cove in Naples and along the Crooked River to Route 302). The approval process is based on the Maine State Plumbing Code [CMR 144A Part 241] and, therefore, is similar to that required by the municipality in which the property is located.
