Wastewater Operations Intern

The Wastewater Operations Intern is a position that will perform a broad range of tasks to assist the Wastewater Maintenance Manager in the creation of a criticality-based asset management program for the wastewater treatment plants and collections system. These tasks include inspecting and rating assets using a condition score and consequence of failure values, verifying asset information is accurate in our asset management system (EAM), finding and reviewing asset O&M manuals, and creating EAM preventive maintenance tasks (PMs). This position will help develop the necessary skills to be successful in your future career in environmental science or engineering. There are few other opportunities that engineering firms find more desirable than experience working for a Utility, specifically with experience assisting in the creation of an asset management program.

The position is up to 40 hours per week for up to a maximum of 5 months, at a starting rate of $18.00 per hour.  You will also earn 1 hour of earned leave time for every 40 hours worked.  Possibility of returning during college breaks.

The successful candidates must have great attention to detail, be a team player, a valid driving license with a clean motor vehicle record, and have a willingness to learn.

Pay Grade: Full time, $17/hour for 12 weeks

Purpose/Customer Impact: To provide technical support for the District's wastewater operational departments.

Reporting Relationships:   Reports To: Wastewater Operations - Chief Operator Wastewater Systems

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Assist in providing inspection and data collection services on public and private property in order to meet functional and quality standards of PWD.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate inspection location and data collection records of PWD and private facilities.
  • Analyze collected data into a written narrative for improvement of District programs and operations.

Other Accountabilities:

  • Ability to work in the field in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Maintain a professional appearance while interacting with the public as part of the job duties.

  • Prefer a student enrolled in a 2 year or 4 year Civil or Environmental Engineering program or closely related engineering or environmental science field.
  • Demonstrated skills using Windows, Microsoft Office, and solid skills in Excel.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both written and oral skills internally and with the public.
  • Proven analytical aptitude.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
