Spring Cleaning of Water Mains Begins

The Portland Water District began spring water main maintenance in May. Crews started in Cape Elizabeth and Windham and will soon move to other parts of the system.

Maintenance flushing activities generally occur, Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Customers may notice short periods of water discoloration; however, this program is essential to maintain water quality and public health. If customers experience any change in water quality following maintenance activities or have security concerns regarding Portland Water District employees, please call 761-8310. Portland Water District personnel carry photo ID and wear uniforms.

Plan a Safe Sebago Lake Day

Now Available: Updated Map and Real-Time Lake Temperatures from the Sebago Lake Monitoring Buoy

Planning time on Sebago Lake this season? The updated Sebago Lake map is now available and is a helpful resource for boating, paddling, fishing, and exploring the lake safely.

Free copies are available at the outdoor receptacle at the Portland Water District Lake Protection Office at 1 White Rock Road in Standish. Maps are also available at marinas around the lake, Sebago Lake State Park, and local businesses and establishments throughout the Sebago Lake area.

BEFORE YOU HEAD OUT, CHECK PWD'S SEBAGO LAKE MONITORING BUOY FOR REAL TIME TEMPERATURES AND CURRENT CONDITIONS.

Know the Zones and Stay Safe

As you enjoy the lake, please follow all safety guidance and observe posted restricted areas. In Lower Bay, two protected areas, the No Trespassing Zone and the No Bodily Contact Zone, help protect the purity of the water. These zones are marked on the Sebago Lake map and by buoys and floating signage on the lake. Boaters in Lower Bay, including those launching from Standish’s public boat launch, should be aware of these restrictions.

Please also stay alert for lake hazards such as submerged rocks, floating debris, and other unexpected conditions. Safe boating starts with awareness. Follow navigational and hazard buoys, and help protect Sebago Lake, the clean water source we all depend on.

PWD Presents Two DiPietro Scholarships

Big congratulations to our 2026 scholarship recipients, Danica Taylor and Aiden Cahill.

We are proud to recognize these two outstanding students as this year’s recipients of the Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship.

Danica Taylor, from Standish, is entering her final year at Loyola University Maryland, studying biology with a minor in environmental studies.

Aiden Cahill, from Gorham, will begin his first year at the University of New Hampshire, majoring in environmental engineering.

Vice President Fred McCann presented the awards on behalf of the Board.

We are proud to support the next generation working to protect our water and strengthen our communities.

Established in 2003, this scholarship honors the legacy of Joe DiPietro, a longtime Portland Water District Trustee, business owner, and committed community volunteer. His dedication to education and service continues through students like Danica and Aiden.
