Meter Replacement Project Surpasses 30% Completion

The Portland Water District has reached a significant milestone in its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project, with more than 30% of all water meters successfully replaced across our service area. The project is progressing ahead of schedule, with more than 20,000 meters replaced and crews currently completing more than 700 replacements each week.

Currently, VEPO Metering installers are working in nearly every community served by the Portland Water District. Customers will receive a letter with instructions on how to set up an appointment when installers are in the neighborhood.

The new meters will support a future online customer portal, giving customers access to their water use, trends, and leak alerts.

Benefits

• Faster, Easier Service: New meters mean quicker responses for service changes or problem-solving—saving you time and hassle.

• Precise Bills You Can Trust: Non-mechanical meters are more precise and will reduce the need for estimated bills.

• Catch Leaks Fast – Save Money: Get near real-time alerts for unusual water use, so you can fix leaks before they cause big bills or damage.

• See Your Water Use Anytime: Track your daily (even hourly!) water use online or through an app—no more surprises when the bill arrives.

• Stay in Control: Set usage alerts, track trends, and make informed choices to conserve water and lower costs.

Thank you to our customers for their cooperation and flexibility as we continue this important investment in our community’s water system. Visit us online for more information, https://www.pwd.org/ami/.
