Environmental Educator Internship
The Portland Water District (PWD) is seeking candidates for an environmental education internship. Education and outreach are important components of PWD’s Sebago Lake Protection Program. These public programs engage a variety of audiences in water quality and stewardship messages related to PWD and Sebago Lake, the water supply for the greater Portland area.
The environmental education intern will help us carry out education and outreach programs provided to children, teachers, and residents of the Sebago Lake Watershed and PWD water service area. The intern will support our in-school education programs, loanable educational resource efforts, and collaborative outreach initiatives. Work will also include tasks related to Drinking Water Week, Sebago Clean Waters, and the Southern Maine Children’s Water Festival.
Candidates must have completed a minimum of one year of college coursework in environmental science, biology, education, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled in college, and those with combined education and environmental science backgrounds. Candidates are required to possess a State of Maine driver’s license with a clean record, have the ability to interact professionally with a variety of audiences, and work both independently and as part of a team. Candidates must be proficient in utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs as well as Google drive. Experience working with children and GIS is desired. Creativity, adaptability, enthusiasm, strong writing and organization skills, and a love for the outdoors are required!
This is a paid, part time (20 hours per week) position that will begin in mid-January and continue through May. A flexible schedule of hours to accommodate classes may be possible; some weekend or evening work may be required.
