Portland Water District Trustees unanimously support Referendum Question #5 |
Last night the Portland Water District Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution supporting the approval of Referendum Question #5 and urged voters to help protect clean water by voting yes on Question #5.
On November 6, Mainers will have the opportunity to vote on Referendum Question #5, “Do you favor a $7,925,000 bond issue to be expended over 2 years for revolving loan funds for drinking water and for wastewater treatment facilities, which will make the State eligible to secure $39,625,000 in federal grants?” These funds provide low-interest loans to water and wastewater facilities to update aging infrastructure. Next year, the Portland Water District will invest $3 million to replace aging water mains and will be nearing completion of a $12.8 million upgrade to the Sebago Lake Water Treatment Facility which will add ultraviolet light disinfection. “The availability of state sponsored, low-interest loans reduces the cost to all rate payers,” stated Board President Wayne Ross. # # # |
