South Portland Student Awarded $1,500 Scholarship |
|
 At their regular business meeting in June, the Portland Water District Board of Trustees awarded the 2010 Joseph A. DiPietro Memorial Scholarship to Spencer DiPietro Bowring of South Portland. Bowring plans to study marine engineering technology at Maine Maritime Academy then pursue a career in the emerging renewable energy fields.
He attended South Portland High School where he earned a 3.3 GPA. While attending high school, Bowring found time to volunteer at the St. John's Parish food pantry and participated in the Adopt-A-Buddy mentor reading program. The Joseph A. DiPietro Scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of respected businessman and longtime Portland Water District Trustee, Joe DiPietro. It serves students in the Portland Water District’s service area who are striving towards the same mission as PWD – protecting public health and the environment.
