Water Service - 1" or less
For domestic water services of 1" or less, a metal bodied valve is required before and after the meter installation with 18" between the valves.  Ball valves are recommended.

Water Service - larger than 1"
Meters larger than 1" require a bypass and a spool piece that will be supplied by the Portland Water District. It is up to the property owner to install proper valving to control the flow of water.

Water Service - larger than 2"
All services larger than 2" require special plumbing.  Plans can be supplied on request.  Meter installations larger than 2" are to be plumbed by the contractor, and PWD will install the meter.
