What is a Submeter, and how do I get one?
Lower your sewer bill by investing in a submeter. Depending on your outside water usage, a submeter could reduce your sewer bill by a significant amount. A submeter allows the water you use outside to be deducted from your sewer bill. It works similarly to your primary water meter, but measures the water you use from your outside faucet. Each month, our meter readers will read your submeter and deduct the usage from your sewer bill. To ensure your submeter is working properly, you can read the meter on a monthly basis.
To be eligible, you must be billed for sewer services by the Portland Water District and live in one of the following communities: Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Gorham, Portland, South Portland, South Windham and Westbrook. To apply, call the Portland Water District at 761-8310.
This submeter program is brought to you by the Portland Water District and your local municipality.
